Marsy's Law

Florida's Marsy's Law is a constitutional guarantee, not a suggestion. Crime victims have the right to be heard, to be informed, to be protected, and to receive restitution. When a case proceeds without notifying the victim, when a hearing is scheduled without warning, or when an accused person is released and no one tells the victim — those may be violations of rights the Florida Constitution guarantees.

Often the same institutions that failed to prevent the harm fail the victim again afterward. Law enforcement downplays the report. Prosecutors treat the victim as a witness rather than a person. Courts move at their own pace, and the human being at the center of the case gets lost.
